At Country Heart Farm we offer equine assisted CO-OCCURING/TRAUMA INFORMED 12 step workshops. This means that we understand that addiction is often rooted in some type of trauma (emotional or physical life wound) and or mental illness. Often the addict has been knowingly or unknowingly self treating to repress memories, numb some form of pain or to manage their symptoms related to an imbalance in mental health. All types of trauma and addiction affect people on a biological, neurological, social, spiritual and emotional level.
Working through solutions with a strong, highly-intuitive 1,200 pound animal grabs and holds your attention, demands full focus and attention to problem solving in the moment and results in honest, immediate feedback that can be emotionally powerful. The challenges of working with the horses becomes clear in the metaphors that relate to the real world challenges a client faces.
Horses do not recognize the stigmas related to addiction or mental illness and provide a chance to let down the walls of self-preservation that have so commonly been built around those battling addiction. Horses do not pass judgements on character, but rather rely on their biological instinct to assess safety within their immediate surroundings.
For people of all ages in recovery, a 12 step Equine Assisted Growth, Learning & Therapy workshop is a space they can enter exactly asthey are, exactly where they are, and be open and begin to heal. Clients are given the opportunity to take the shame, guilt, self-loathing, anger, trauma, whatever it is that they’re feeling and experiencing —and take it out of their head and leave it go.
We understand that Addiction is a huge problem for both the addict as well as their families and communities. But through a connection with our horses, lives are touched and opportunities for healing exist.
To be a candidate for our 12 Step Workshops you must be working with a counselor, have a sponsor, have at least 30 days clean and/or sober and truly want to be here for yourself.
Our Equine Assisted 12 Step Workshops are available for both individuals and groups.
The goal of our 12 Step Workshops is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America's communities.
